Privacy Policy

The Folk Project (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates www.thefolkproject.com (the “Website”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal information when you browse, place an order, or contact us.

We sell in India only. We handle personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other applicable Indian law.

For privacy or grievance requests, use the email or phone above. We aim to respond within a reasonable period.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use the Website, we may collect:

  • Identity and contact: name, email, phone number, billing and shipping address
  • Order and payment: products ordered, amount, COD charges if applicable, payment status (we do not store full card numbers; those are handled by the payment provider)
  • Account (if you create one): login email and order history
  • Communications: messages you send by email or phone
  • Device, usage, and ads: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and advertising/analytics identifiers (see section 4)

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. This store is intended for adults buying apparel.

3. Why we use your information

  • To confirm, pack, ship, and support your order (including cash on delivery where you choose it)
  • To process prepaid payments and invoices
  • To handle cancellations, size exchanges, and refunds
  • To reply to enquiries
  • To send order updates (dispatch, delivery, COD, delay)
  • To measure ads and website performance with Google and Meta (Facebook/Instagram)
  • To detect fraud, prevent abuse, and keep the Website secure
  • To meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations

4. Cookies, Google, and Meta ads

The Website runs on Shopify. Shopify uses cookies needed for the cart, checkout, login, and security. Blocking those cookies may stop checkout from working.

We also use Google (for example Google Ads / Analytics) and Meta (for example Meta Pixel on Facebook and Instagram) to understand how the site is used, measure campaigns, and show relevant ads. These partners may set their own cookies or pixels and process data under their policies. You can use browser controls, Google ad settings, and Meta ad settings to limit ads. We do not currently confirm a separate email/SMS newsletter programme; if you later subscribe to marketing messages, you can opt out using the link in those messages or by emailing us.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only as needed to run the store:

  • Shopify: hosts the Website, cart, checkout, and customer accounts
  • Razorpay: processes prepaid payments (UPI, cards, and other methods Razorpay enables on checkout)
  • Couriers: name, phone, and delivery address so the parcel can be shipped (the carrier is chosen at dispatch). For COD orders the courier may also collect the order amount plus the COD fee
  • Google and Meta: advertising and analytics as described above
  • Government / regulators / courts: when the law requires it

We do not sell your personal information.

6. Payments

You can pay prepaid on Shopify checkout through Razorpay (UPI, credit/debit cards, and other methods Razorpay enables), or cash on delivery with an extra fee of ₹250. Razorpay’s privacy terms apply to the prepaid payment step. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded or failed; we do not receive your full card number or UPI PIN.

7. How long we keep data

We keep order and invoice records for as long as Indian tax and company law require. Customer service messages are kept long enough to resolve your request and for a reasonable follow-up period. You may ask us to delete account data that the law does not require us to retain.

8. Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate details
  • Delete data we are not required to keep
  • Withdraw consent for optional marketing

9. Security and international processing

We use Shopify, Razorpay, Google, and Meta, which apply their own security measures. No internet transmission is completely secure. These partners may process data on servers outside India in order to operate the store, payments, and ads.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time, including when we obtain a GSTIN. The date on the Shopify policy page will change when we do. Continued use of the Website after an update means you accept the revised policy.
